The "Chip Kelly did what?" alert has seemingly sounded at least once a week the past three months in Philadelphia.
The current case, of course, has sparked the latest round of Tebow-mania, as the Eagles officially signed quarterback Tim Tebow to a contract on Monday.
While some around the league are puzzled at what the franchise is doing with Kelly in complete control, the man who took over for him at Oregon says to hold your horses and calm down because it's all being done for a reason and the man in charge of the Eagles isn't out of his mind.
"I think it's unfortunate that I've had to answer this question more than once," Ducks coach Mark Helfrich joked with The Register-Guard after Monday's practice. "Chip Kelly is not insane ... he's got a plan, he's got a method."
That was certainly the case in Eugene, where Kelly elevated the Oregon program into a top-tier national powerhouse in college football after taking over. The question remains if the coach's methods will translate in Philly.
As Around the NFL editor Gregg Rosenthal pointed out, Tebow will be one of five quarterbacks Kelly will have in camp, and the former SEC Network analyst faces an uphill battle to even make the roster. At the very least, he could be an interesting option in the up-tempo spread offense the Eagles run. He definitely makes it an interesting race to become the starter, with there now being two Heisman Trophy winners among the three former first-rounders taking snaps for the Eagles.
"I don't know, that's exciting for the media for sure," Helfrich added of the Kelly-Tebow union.
It certainly is. And apparently all part of the plan.
