The NFL will release its 2015 schedule Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET. Thomas Davis hopes the Carolina Panthers get the Dallas Cowboys early in the season, a scenario that would set up the possibility they'd miss former teammate Greg Hardy.
"No one really knows what the league's going to do suspension-wise," Davis said Monday at the start of voluntary workouts, according to The Charlotte Observer. "But I hope we play them early in the season and we don't have to face him."
The NFL has yet to announce discipline for Hardy, who missed 15 games last season following a domestic violence conviction. The charges were dismissed earlier this year after North Carolina prosecutors said the accuser in the case couldn't be found.Â
Hardy signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys that can be worth as much as $13.1 million if he reaches all incentives. That will be difficult to do if he faces an early-season ban, as is expected in league circles.
Davis was asked what kind of impact Hardy might have on the Dallas defense.
"I don't know. I don't really care either," he replied. "I hope he's not that good and it doesn't really work out for Dallas. But I know Hardy and I know what kind of player he is. He's going to go in and he's going to work his butt off. He's definitely going to make that defense better."
