Michael Crabtree signs one-year deal with Raiders

Michael Crabtree is headed to the other side of the Bay.

The wide receiver signed a one-year deal with the Raiders, the team announced on Monday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Crabtree's contract is worth $3.2 million and he can earn another $1.8 million in incentives.

Crabtree, a 2009 first-round pick who spent his first six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, visited with the Raiders and Dolphins this offseason. He was the top player remaining on Around The NFL's top 101 free agents list.

The Raiders made sense as a suitor. The team was unable to land free-agent targets like Randall Cobb and Jeremy Maclin. Crabtree was then targeted as an acceptable fallback option. The Raiders' depth chart also includes James Jones, Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, all returning players from a season ago.

Crabtree's play fell off in 2014 in his first full season back from surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. Still just 27, Crabtree should find a prominent role in an offense led by promising second-year quarterback Derek Carr. Whether he can regain his old burst and find a fit in Oakland's locker room remains to be seen.
