Who is the No. 3 quarterback in the 2015 NFL Draft? It probably depends on whom you ask.
Some think it's UCLA's Brett Hundley, who has the physical tools to earn the high ranking from some scouts. Others might lean toward Colorado State's Garrett Grayson because of his anticipation, accuracy, and moxie in the pocket.Â
NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah is hearing one other name might be entrenched in the spot behind Oregon's Marcus Mariota and Florida State's Jameis Winston.
"I have (Grayson) as my third quarterback, but that's based off my eyes. My ears tell me something differently when you talk to people around the league," said Jeremiah on NFL Network's "Path to the Draft." "I think Bryce Petty is pretty entrenched as the No. 3 guy for most talent evaluators."
Petty has steadily been building momentum the past several weeks and had a good showing at Baylor's pro day. Some consider him to be the best natural passer in the draft, and he's also been set as NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock's third quarterback for some time.
While one would think that's good news for Petty to be labeled as the third-best at any position in the draft, the quarterback position is not all that highly regarded once you get past the top two spots.
"When you look at guys who could be potential starters or can develop into starters, I don't know if we even have one of those," Jeremiah said on Tuesday's "Path to the Draft." "I think these are backup quarterbacks. We have two starting quarterbacks in Winston and Mariota, and the rest of these guys are long-term backups."
Petty might have convinced front offices and scouts he should be the third signal-caller drafted. But he might still have plenty to prove once he reaches the pros.
