Really giving his 2015 NFL Draft stock a boost in the workouts was defensive tackle Christian Covington (6-foot-2 1/4, 289 pounds). Covington ran the 40-yard dash in 4.91 and 4.89 seconds. He had a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-3 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.43 seconds and the three-cone dirll in 7.43 seconds. Covington performed 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Covington was impressive in his positional workout, moving around well and showing good explosion.

Wide receiver Jordan Taylor (6-4 3/8, 209) ran the 40 in 4.53 and 4.5 seconds. He had a 36 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-2 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.46 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.69 seconds, which is a really good time. He also performed nine strength lifts. Taylor is a very flexible guy, and has a chance to be drafted as early as the sixth round of the draft.

Rice finished the 2014 season with an 8-5 record and capped the year off with a 30-6 win over Fresno State in the Hawai'i Bowl. Rice's pro day this year was reflective of the on-field success the emerging program is experiencing (three consecutive seasons of bowl-eligibility). This pro day had the best group of prospects scouts have seen at Rice in some time.
