Buccaneers agree to terms with safety Major Wright

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have struck a deal with Major Wright.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the veteran safety agreed to terms with the team on a new contract, according to a source involved in the pact.

The sixth-year defender played in 12 games for the Bucs last season before landing on injured reserve with a rib injury. His 51 tackles came during a campaign that saw Wright fail to pick off a pass all year. He piled up nine interceptions during four up-and-down seasons with the Chicago Bears.

A favorite of coach Lovie Smith, Wright played adequately against the run in 2014 but hardly figures as a difference-maker in pass coverage. He was nowhere to be seen on our list of the top 20 free-agent defensive backs, but the Bucs think enough of Wright to keep him around as part of their rebuilding plans.
