When he's not tweeting about Judge Judy, Zambonis or wishing folks happy birthday in a unique way, former San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is staying quite busy in his new role as the head coach at Michigan.
In the middle of spring practices and a trip out of state, however, Harbaugh still found time to be a good samaritan when called upon.Â
Shortly after 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Harbaugh was traveling along I-94 near Ann Arbor when he came upon a single-car accident. A woman driving a Jeep along the highway apparently was driving too fast and lost control in slippery conditions, causing her car to hit the center median, overturn and land on the other side of the road. The driver was partially ejected despite wearing her seatbelt, but Harbaugh assisted her until police and emergency vehicles were able to arrive on scene.
"Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan, head football coach, and Jim Minick, University of Michigan, Athletic Staff, stopped and assisted with first-aid by assisting the partially ejected driver to exit the Jeep and by using coats to keep the injured passenger warm until EMS arrived," Michigan State Police said in a prepared statement.
The 53-year-old woman and her 73-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital to treat non-life threatening injuries, according police.
Harbaugh later proceeded to the airport where he caught a plane back to the Bay Area to return to his home in the area according to reports.
That's probably not the kind of day the maize and blue faithful anticipated reading about with their head coach but as with anything when it comes to Harbaugh, you never know what to expect. Luckily for a pair of injured motorists in Ann Arbor, the coach was at the right place at the right time to help out.
