Minnesota's Maxx Williams has impressive positional workout

Representatives from 20 NFL teams, including the entire coaching staff of the Minnesota Vikings, were on hand for Minnesota's pro day Monday.

The workout was held indoors at the school's Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex and run on artificial turf. There were 14 Golden Gophers players who worked out, as well as 23 other players from area small colleges.

Tight end Maxx Williams (6-foot-4, 249 pounds) stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine (he was a top performer in his position group in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and 20-yard short shuttle). Williams did, however, go through positional drills and looked good doing so.

Running back David Cobb (5-11, 229) was unable to run due to a quad strain suffered at the combine. Cobb will run on either Wednesday, April 1; Thursday, April 2 or Friday, April 3.

Inside linebacker Damien Wilson (6-0, 245) stood on his numbers from the combine, but did do positional drills.

Free safety Cedric Thompson (5-11 1/2, 211) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 and 4.48 seconds. He had a 40 1/2-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He had a 4.28-second 20-yard short shuttle and 6.96-second three-cone drill. He performed 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Thompson had a good pro day workout, and looks like a possible late-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft or priority free-agent pickup for an NFL team following the draft.

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill and his coaching staff were extremely helpful for the NFL representatives present and ran a well-organized and efficient pro day given that there were 37 players working out.
