Atlanta Falcons release veteran guard Justin Blalock

The Falcons aren't finished churning the roster.

After cutting running back Steven Jackson and wideout Harry Douglas, the team on Friday announced the release of veteran guard Justin Blalock.

The move comes as little surprise. While Blalock, 31, was a solid player for the Falcons, starting 125 games over eight seasons, the road-grader wasn't seen as a good fit for play-caller Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme.

The 6-foot-4, 326-pound Blalock -- Atlanta's second-round pick in 2007 -- is bound to catch on with a linemen-needy squad. Around The NFL has the interior blocker ranked 65th on our list of the top 101 free agents.
