Baltimore Ravens release DE Chris Canty

The defensive end was entering the final year of a three-year, $8 million contract signed in 2013. Cutting him saves the Ravens $2.66 million on the salary cap, per OverTheCap.com.

The cut comes just two days after the team jettisoned receiver/returner Jacoby Jones.

Canty, 32, has reportedly been mulling retirement after 10 NFL seasons, but has been working out regularly and intends to play, per The Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson.

The Ravens have several holes to fill on the offensive side of the ball where Torrey Smith is a free agent -- he could price himself out of Baltimore -- and tight end is a big question mark with Dennis Pitta's future in question. The Ravens also are looking to upgrade a tattered secondary.

The Ravens brass continues to effort a restructuring of Haloti Ngata's contract to lower the cap figure. His deal could be the next domino to fall in Baltimore.
