The future of Ndamukong Suh will be a hot topic over the course of the next month as the Detroit Lions defensive tackle is poised to be the biggest name on the open market.
However, the All-Pro won't leave the Motor City if Calvin Johnson has any say.
"I'll do whatever I got to do," Johnson told the Detroit Free Press at NFL Honors of helping recruit Suh to stay with the franchise that drafted him with the second-overall pick in 2010.
It remains to be seen whether Megatron's comment will lead to a contract restructure that helps move money around for salary cap purposes.
Johnson is set to count $20.6 million against the cap next season. Quarterback Matthew Stafford will count $17.7 million in 2015 and escalates past $22 million the next two seasons. With two players already counting for around $40 million in cap space, some question whether it's prudent for the Lions to add another $20 million per-season player.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the Lions believe they can still re-sign Suh, but will let the 28-year-old test his market value. Plenty of teams are likely to line up for the opportunity to sign one of the top defenders in his prime -- something that doesn't often happen in the NFL.Â
If Megatron gets his way, those other teams will be out of luck.
