Jaguars hire Greg Olson as offensive coordinator

Former Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson is returning to Jacksonville.

The Jaguars announced Wednesday morning Olson has been named the team's new offensive coordinator.

Olson was cut loose in Oakland with the rest of the Dennis Allen-Tony Sparano coaching staff. His fate was sealed Monday when new coach Jack Del Rio chose Bill Musgrave as offensive coordinator.

Olson was assistant head coach/quarterbacks under Mike Mularkey back in the 2012 season.

His stock is on the rise after guiding Derek Carr to an impressive rookie season.

Olson will be charged with developing Blake Bortles after the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft showed wonky mechanics and questionable decision-making in 13 up-and-down starts.

It's important the Jaguars turn the franchise around in 2015, so Bortles isn't stuck with yet another coach in his third season.

Now that Jacksonville's job has been filled, former Broncos offensive boss Adam Gase could end up filling the Rams' vacancy.
