Cowboys' Henry Melton could miss playoffs with injury

The Dallas Cowboys could be without a big defensive piece in advance of their Sunday afternoon playoff game against the Detroit Lions.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that defensive tackle Henry Melton sustained a leg injury that could knock him out of the playoffs, per two sources involved in the situation.

Rapoport added that Melton will undergo an MRI on Monday, but the injury is considered serious.

Melton, who came off an ACL tear, was a huge part of the Cowboys' defensive line rotation. The 28-year-old played a big role getting push up the middle on passing downs and ended the season with five sacks -- second-most on the team.

Pro Football Focus ranked Melton as their 15th rated defensive tackle this season.

If Melton is unable to play Sunday it will be a big blow for the Cowboys against a Lions offense that has struggled to protect Matthew Stafford at times this season.
