Mark Sanchez will get another week to prove he can hang as Chip Kelly's starting quarterback.
Kelly told reporters Monday in Philadelphia that Nick Foles (collarbone) did not receive medical clearance to begin serious game week preparation. On Sunday, Kelly said he was unsure what would happen if Foles got the green light.
The news is beneficial to Sanchez, who had a legitimately bad taste in his mouth after a two-interception performance against the Cowboys in a game that significantly derailed their playoff hopes. Sanchez was hardly the main issue against an aggressive Dallas defense, but he misfired on several key throws down the stretch. He allowed some old indecision to creep in, which invited more pressure.
In seven appearances with the Eagles this season, Sanchez has won four games. He's significantly upped his career completion percentage but unfortunately has not eliminated the costly turnovers. Sunday night gave him nine picks on the season, leading many to believe that Foles would start against Washington this week if healthy.
Instead, Sanchez has a chance to rewrite his story once again. The Eagles cannot afford another loss over the next two weeks and need some help from Dallas, Green Bay or Detroit to sneak into the playoffs.
