Bruce Arians said Tuesday he was "completely embarrassed" by the Cardinals' performance in a loss to the Falconson Sunday, calling it the first time he coached a team that "went out there unprepared."
Heavy words, but Arians isn't about to hang Arizona's two-game skid on Drew Stanton. Carson Palmer's replacement has struggled to move the offense for most of the past three weeks, but Arians didn't hesitate when asked if he'd considered a change.
"Oh, no. Drew -- he's maybe had three or four bad throws in two games -- but the quarterback always gets heat," Arians told SiriusXM NFL's Late Hits with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt. "There's no thought of changing quarterbacks. He's gonna take us where we want to go.
"It's just a matter of one high ball -- and that's about it last week. One was catchable, but you bring it down six inches, and it's a 25-yard gain. So that's how close we were in both those ball games. But no, he's more than fine."
"More than fine" feels like a stretch for a quarterback who's led his team to one touchdown in the past 10 quarters. Then again, we get why Arians would put his faith behind a slumping Stanton before Logan Thomas, the wholly untested mid-round rookie behind him.
