After years in the making, we'll see yet another glimpse of the College Football Playoff selection committee in action Tuesday night, when it releases its sixth set of top 25 rankings.
Fresh off a thrilling Week 14, here are a few guesses for who will make the committee's top four and who will be left wondering what they have to do to move up. Keep in mind, this is a look at the playoff picture right now and not a projection of wins and losses the rest of the season.
No. 1 seed: Alabama
No. 2 seed: Oregon
No. 3 seed: Florida State
No. 4 seed: TCU

» Baylor: The Bears had to keep pace with TCU but failed to do so with a narrow win over lowly Texas Tech. Sure, some of those struggles can be traced back to Bryce Petty leaving the game, but that doesn't explain a defense that allowed a freshman quarterback to throw for nearly 600 yards. Baylor needs a big win over Kansas State this weekend before it can start shouting "head-to-head" from the mountaintops.
» Ohio State: The Buckeyes are still in contention for the No. 4 seed in the playoff with another win over a quality opponent this Saturday in the Big Ten Championship game. We have no idea how the committee will factor in the loss of quarterback J.T. Barrett, but make no mistake, it will be held against the Buckeyes if the margin is close between them and the Big 12 schools.
» Arizona: Can a two-loss team still sneak into the playoff conversation? If anybody can do it, it might just be the Wildcats. They could end up champions of the Pac-12 with two wins over Oregon to go with wins over Arizona State and Utah. That just might be enough.
