Mike Pettine: Browns not ready to make QB decision

Mike Pettine isn't ready to make -- or at least reveal -- his big quarterback decision.

The Cleveland Browns coach told reporters on Monday that he plans to meet with his assistant coaches and general manager Ray Farmer before deciding whether to stick with Brian Hoyer or shift to Johnny Manzielnext Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

"Not ready to make a decision on that at this point," Pettine said. "Not leaning one way or the other, but there's a lot to consider."

Hoyer threw two interceptions on Sunday and led the Browns to just one field goal before being yanked in favor of Manziel, who led Cleveland on a touchdown drive on his first possession in a 26-10 loss to the Bills. Hoyer also struggled the week prior in Atlanta, where he threw three interceptions before leading the Browns on a game-winning field goal drive.

Pettine said he doesn't envision a scenario where the Browns move to a two-quarterback system. He said the team will likely have a decision by Wednesday.

Hoyer was the first Browns player to make himself available to the media Monday, telling reporters he's still preparing as the starter. He said being replaced by Manziel on Sunday "doesn't waver (his) confidence any one bit."

"You don't get to 7-5 in the NFL by lucking into it," Hoyer said, according to NFL Media's Aditi Kinkhabwala.

Hoyer's numbers have never jumped off the page, but he has team success on his side. The Browns have won 10 of 15 games that Hoyer has started dating back to last season, no small accomplishment for a franchise famous for perpetual ineptitude.

Just another factor for Pettine to ponder as he prepares to make the biggest decision of his young head-coaching career.
