Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory has emerged as one of college football's top pass rushers over the past two seasons, but Huskers coach Bo Pelini believes the junior's career arc isn't even close to reaching its peak.
"He has a tremendous feel for the game. Still, I think he's going to get bigger and I think he's going to get stronger as he moves forward. He's a real talent," Pelini said, according to the Omaha World-Herald. "... The beautiful thing about him, as good of a player as he is, I think there's still a lot out there for him."
There is no doubt Gregory has the frame, at 6-foot-6, 248 pounds, to add some weight. In fact, he bulked up during the offseason, but will likely look to add even more size after the season. Gregory has made 30 tackles for loss in a little less than two seasons with the Huskers, and is fast approaching 20 career sacks. Pelini said NFL scouts have told him Gregory's future is "definitely bright." But when it comes to his decision on whether to enter the 2015 NFL Draft or stay at Nebraska for one more year, Pelini said he won't have a seat at the table when the final choice is made.
"That's something where we'll have to sit down when the season is over and talk about it," Pelini said. "I serve an informational role in that. I'll give my opinion, my advice as to where he is. Then it's up to him and his family to make the decision, and it's up to me to support him no matter what he decides at that point."
Earlier this season, an NFC scout told College Football 24/7 analysts that Gregory is similar to San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Aldon Smith.
Underclassmen have until Jan. 15 to declare whether they will enter the draft.
