Steve Gleason to be inducted into Washington State Hall of Fame

Former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason, who is waging a battle with ALS, will be inducted into the Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Gleason will be the sole member of the 2014 class and will be recognized between the first and second quarters of this season's game with archrival Washington.

"With a sold-out Martin Stadium for the Apple Cup, I can think of no better setting to highlight Steve's accomplishments than in front of a fan base that has admired him for so many years," Washington State AD Bill Moos said in a release from the school.

Gleason was a four-year letterman in football and baseball at Washington State (1995-99). In football, he was a three-time All-Pac-10 selection and finished with 282 tackles, ninth-most in school history. He also was a four-time Pac-10 all-academic pick in football.

He played seven seasons in the NFL, all with the Saints (2000-07). He was diagnosed with ALS in 2011.

NFL Films produced "A Football Life: Steve Gleason" in 2013.
