Jason Avant signs with Kansas City Chiefs

Dumped by the Carolina Panthers early this week, veteran wide receiver Jason Avant wasn't out of work long.

Avant's agent, Doug Frederickson, revealed Friday that his client has signed with a new team. The Kansas City Chiefs later announced the move Friday night.

In 11 games with the Panthers this season, Avant managed just 201 yards on 21 receptions, for a meager average of 9.6 per catch.

Avant's hands have long been among the most reliable in the league, but he won't solve the Chiefs' need for a playmaker in the aerial attack. Once he learns Andy Reid's offense, the 31-year-old will likely man the slot in Kansas City.
