The lack of playing time led to some speculation that the running back's shoulder injury from Week 9 was worse than it appeared.

However, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that he was told Miller was "fine" and didn't suffer a setback.

Miller was blown up by Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on a two-yard loss on the Dolphins' first play from scrimmage Sunday. He earned just 10 rushing yards on the game. Daniel Thomas had five carries for 14 yards and a fumble. Rookie Damien Williams led Miami with seven carries for 34 yards as the Dolphins' rushing attack totaled just 50 yards.

With a quick turnaround before facing the Buffalo Bills' fierce defensive front on Thursday Night Football, exclusively on NFL Network, Miller's practice participation this week will be something to monitor.

In advance of their tussle with the Bills, Miami coach Joe Philbin announced the team promoted running back LaMichael James from the practice squad, a move made official later on Monday. James was released by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this season.

The shifty James could provide a change-of-pace out of Miami's backfield in what will likely be a limited role if he's active Thursday night.

James took the roster spot that opened when the Dolphins placed star left tackle Branden Albert on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.
