The Cincinnati Bengals could be without one of their playmaking pass-catchers for the rest of the season.
Coach Marvin Lewis said Friday that tight end Tyler Eifert could be out for the duration of 2014.
"I can't give you an update until he's close to being healthy," Lewis said, before stating there is a chance Eifert misses the rest of the season. "So he's on the mend, he's healing, he's doing things, and if he gets back and healthy, and he's gonna be able to contribute and not risk further injury, then he'll be back and out there.
"But obviously not gonna risk Tyler's future for any part of this season right now until he's completely 100 percent healthy, to be able to do his job thoroughly."
Eifert was placed on the injured reserve-designated to return list in September after suffering a gruesome dislocated elbow in Week 1.Â
The second-year player entered the season primed for a big role in the Bengals' aerial attack after catching 39 passes for 445 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie.Â
If Eifert is out for the season, it would be another blow to the Bengals' passing game. Eifert caused matchup problems for a lot of defenses when on the field. As we saw on Thursday night, Andy Dalton and Cincy's passing gamecan get squeezed without a field-stretching threat over the middle.
