Kyle Allen arrived at Texas A&M as the No. 1 QB in the 2014 recruiting class.

We see stars rise and fall all the time, but Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill's descent is as rapid as any in recent memory.

Weeks after he was being celebrated as "Kenny Trill" -- the ultra-productive too-good-to-be-true replacement at A&M for Johnny Manziel -- he's being benched in favor of true freshman Kyle Allen, according to reports. Texas A&M will not announce its starter until Saturday.

Allen, from Desert Mountain High in Scottsdale, Arizona, was the nation's consensus No. 1 quarterback in the 2014 recruiting class, and Hill has struggled of late after a hot start. He broke Manziel's school record for passing yards in the season opener but has thrown six interceptions in the last three games, and offensive coordinator Jake Spavital said earlier this week that the team was reopening the quarterback position to competition. Texas A&M has lost three in a row and Hill threw for a season-low 138 yards in his most recent outing, a 59-0 throttling courtesy of Alabama.

The Aggies (5-3) will host Louisiana Monroe (3-4) on Saturday.
