Greg Hardy's trial postponed

The Carolina Panthers and defensive end Greg Hardy will have to wait a little longer to get a resolution to his legal problems.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that Hardy's trial has been postponed, according to a source involved in the process.

Hardy was arrested on charges of assault on a woman in May.

Rapoport later reported, per a Panthers source, that Hardy had been texting teammates, planning to be at facility near his original trial date of Nov. 17. Hardy was confident he would be found not guilty and play.

The Panthersannounced in September that the defensive end had been placed on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission List, following the lead of the Minnesota Vikings' handling of the Adrian Peterson situation.

When Hardy was placed at the exempt list, Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said the defensive end would not play until his legal issues were resolved.

Hardy was playing under a one-year contract as the team's franchise player and will be a free agent after the season.
