Ricky Williams: If given do-over, I wouldn't play in NFL

If Ricky Williams had to do everything over again, he would make one pretty significant career alteration.

He wouldn't play in the NFL.

"(I would) do something else," Williams said on NFL AM on Thursday in advance of his episode of A Football Life on NFL Network, which premiers Friday night at 9 p.m. ET. "Because of the career I had at Texas, I had so many doors open to me to finish up school and pretty much go anywhere in the world and do whatever I wanted to do.

"I had that open to me, and I decided to play football because that seemed like the next logical choice. But some people are built for the NFL and some people aren't, and I don't think I was a person who was really built for success in the NFL."

The revelation isn't exactly a shocking one considering Williams took plenty of time to explore his options between 2003 and 2005, when he studied holistic medicine and took up yoga, among other activities.

But it would be interesting to see what kind of path Williams would have chosen had he taken some time to weigh his options out of college. Mike Ditka still might be coaching the Saints for all we know.

"A Football Life: Ricky Williams" premiers Friday at 9 p.m. ET on NFL Network. Check out the NFL Network's complete schedule here. Also, click here to locate NFL Network channel numbers in your area.
