We're one step closer to knowing if Robert Griffin III will make his return to the field on Monday night.
The Washington Redskins on Saturday listed the quarterback as questionable for the team's NFC East showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. Griffin was limited in Saturday's practice, just as he was on Thursday and Friday.
Word on RG3's status came one day after coach Jay Grudenreiterated that Washington is preparing as if Colt McCoy will start -- and one day after Griffin released a statement quoting Winston Churchill to help explain that he won't play until his dislocated ankle is fully healthy.
With McCoy taking the lion's share of first-team reps, we don't expect Griffin to be rushed into action. There's no question, though, that he's seen inside team walls as the best option.
"What the Redskins are doing is keeping open the possibility that RG3 could actually be healthy enough to play, and if he is healthy enough, they absolutely will play him," NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport said on Friday's edition of Around The NFL.
"Because what the Redskins have realized -- really over the last month and a half -- is something that took them a long way to get here: RG3 is the best quarterback on their roster. At one point it looked like they'd be open to Kirk Cousins actually taking his job. They know now that is not going to be the case."
