Josh McCown (thumb) returns to Buccaneers practice

After a month of having his quarterback decision made for him, Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith will be forced to choose between Mike Glennon and Josh McCown for this week's game versus the Minnesota Vikings.

McCown practiced Monday for the first time since damaging a ligament in his right thumb in Week 3.

Glennon took the first snaps of practice, per The Tampa Tribune, but Smith said that McCown threw "pretty well" on Monday.

Smith has been all over the map with his public statements regarding the quarterback situation.

He originally held firm to his offseason stance that Glennon is merely the signal-caller of the future. After Glennon led the Bucs to an upset victory in Pittsburgh, Smith then left open the possibility of staying with the younger quarterback.

Despite a blowout loss to the Ravensa week ago, Smith conceded that the future "came a little sooner than we thought," as Glennon has provided "a lot of hope."

Based on that optimism and Glennon's first-team reps on Monday, it would seem that he has the edge on the starting job.
