Just days after Florida freshman quarterback Treon Harris was suspended indefinitely after being accused of a sexual assault, the accuser has withdrawn the complaint and Harris has been reinstated to the team.
But while he's rejoined the Gators a day before a crucial home game against LSU, he won't play against the Tigers.
"We have been notified that the University and legal process is complete. Treon has been reinstated to the team, but he will not play Saturday," UF coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "This has been a learning experience for everyone involved. Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates."
UF confirmed earlier in the day that Harris' accuser had withdrawn the claim.
"The student who accused Treon Harris of sexual battery has withdrawn her criminal complaint," the school announced in a statement. "This means she is not pursuing criminal charges against him at this time but maintains the right to do so in the future."
The school suspended Harris from the team immediately after the allegation surfaced.
Harris came off the bench to rally the Gators to a 10-9 comeback win over Tennessee last week. Quarterback Jeff Driskel handled the first-team practice reps this week and will start Saturday against LSU. Familiarizing Harris with the game plan would be nearly impossible just a day before the game, which could be the reason Muschamp has ruled him out. Having outperformed Driskel at Tennessee, however, Harris could reclaim the starting job as early as next week, when the Gators will host Missouri.
