Week 6 of the college football season brought us Separation Saturday and a host of huge upsets. While we know who won and lost the games from the box scores, who really came out of Saturday able to hold their heads high heading into Week 7?
Winners
The State of Mississippi: The biggest college football weekend in the state's history lived up to the advanced billing thanks to a pair of upset wins over top 10 teams. Mississippi State did so in a dominating fashion over Texas A&M, while Bo Wallace and Ole Miss saved some theatrics for the fourth quarter in a thrilling victory.
College football fans: Four of the top six teams in College Football 24/7's Top 25 Power Rankings lost this week, and 11 of the teams in the top 20 were defeated. Few Saturdays could ever match the number of great games or finishes we ended up seeing. Plus there were a host of records. While it might not have been a great day if your team lost, chances are it was awesome watching at home or in the stands.
Todd Gurley: Yes, it was against Vanderbilt, but the Heisman Trophy candidate (front-runner?) had 163 yards rushing and two scores as well as Georgia's longest play from scrimmage this season thanks to a 50-yard pass.
Everett Golson: The Notre Dame quarterback delivered a Heisman moment with a game-winning touchdown pass on fourth-and-11 to beat the best defense in the country.
Pat Fitzgerald: Northwestern's head coach went through a ton during the offseason and got off to a bad start in 2014, but he might have turned the Wildcats' season around with a big victory over No. 17 Wisconsin.
Gary Patterson: TCU's head coach did a masterful job in pulling off an upset of Oklahoma and earning the program's biggest win since moving to the Big 12.
Mike Bercovici and Jaelen Strong:Hail Mary's are fun. They're even more fun when you come back from nine down to beat USC at the Coliseum as these two Arizona State players did.
Ohio State: The Buckeyes rolled over Maryland and it never seemed all that close. Urban Meyer and his staff have done a great job with quarterback J.T. Barrett, who posted a 267-yard, four-touchdown passing performance.
Justin Fuente: Looking for a hot head-coaching name this offseason? Look no further than the Memphis coach, who turned around the program from one of the worst in the FBS to an AAC contender after blasting Cincinnati.
Virginia and Georgia Tech: Just a pair of programs that are suddenly 2-0 in the ACC when few expected them to be there.
Mark Stoops: How big of a turnaround has Stoops done at Kentucky? The Wildcats were winless in the SEC last year yet only have a triple-OT loss on the resume to sit at 4-1 on the year.
Utah: Just call them the Pac-12 giant killers, as they slayed a conference foe ranked in the top 10 for the second straight season. Great win for a program that has enough ability to make even more noise in the Pac-12 South.
Connor Halliday: The Washington State quarterback was prolific on Saturday to set a host of school, Pac-12 and FBS records. Air Raid offense, indeed.
Losers
Kansas: The post-Charlie Weis era looked a lot like it did before the school fired the head coach last Sunday. The Jayhawks lost at West Virginia -- the team's 26th straight road defeat. Oh, and they still have to pay Weis millions to stay away from the program.
Stanford's offense: It was once again a rough Saturday for the Cardinal offense, which averaged just three yards per play. Kevin Hogan looked terrible at times and they wasted a great defensive effort on the road.
Trevor Knight: Oklahoma's quarterback became a household name thanks to Katy Perry's appearance on ESPN's "College GameDay" on Saturday morning. He didn't back things up, however, with shaky play in a loss to TCU.
Bryce Petty: We're used to seeing Baylor's quarterback put up amazing numbers, but he did no such thing on the road at Texas in what might have been his worst passing performance since arriving in Waco.
People that watched Florida at Tennessee: This was just not a good football game, and you likely regretted watching it if you suffered through the whole thing. The winning team's starting quarterback had 59 yards passing and there were six turnovers. That gives you an idea of the subpar play in Knoxville.
Pete Lembo: Ball State's head coach could have been a hot coaching candidate this offseason thanks to the work he did with the team last year. Instead, Lembo fell to 1-4 on the year after losing to Army -- a team that couldn't beat Yale last week.
Illinois: Any team that gives up 551 yards of offense and three touchdowns of over 40 yards to Purdue will automatically land on the losers list.
Michigan: Not much needs to be said here, but a bad week for the Wolverines got worse with a loss on the road to Rutgers that brought out a field-storming.
