The once mighty Philadelphia ground game continues to flounder behind a makeshift offensive line.
LeSean McCoy carried the ball 10 times for a grand total of 17 yards in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
In the past two weeks, McCoy has toted the rock 29 times for a mere 39 yards -- a worse-than-Trent-Richardson average of 1.34 yards per carry.
Eagles coach Chip Kelly absolved McCoy of wrongdoing, placing the blame on an offensive line missing three starters.
"We got whooped up front," Kelly said, per CSN Philly. "We're not very good up front right now. We've got a lot of guys banged up. That's not an excuse, it's just the reality."
The reality is also that on Sunday eight quarterbacks out-rushed McCoy. That list of signal callers includes the likes of Jay "Mr. Fumblerooski" Cutler and Charlie Whitehurst. Fun Fact: Clipboard Jesus ran for more yards Sunday (40) than McCoy has earned in two weeks (39).
McCoy said he was "embarrassed" about his performance and didn't want to discuss getting just 10 carries Sunday, per ESPN.com.
"We're just not getting it done, not executing," a terse McCoy said. "We had the ball enough. We didn't do anything with it."
Suspended right tackle Lane Johnson returns this week and should provide a boost. Left guard Evan Mathis and center Jason Kelce will be back down the line. Until they return the Eagles will move forward with a patchwork quilt for an offensive line.Â
