Vincent Brown signs one-year deal with Raiders

The playmaker-starved Oakland Raiders are taking a flier on Vincent Brown.

The former San Diego Chargers wide receiver signed a one-year contract with the Raiders on Monday, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Brown, a 2011 third-round pick, was waived-injured by San Diego after missing most of training camp with a calf issue.

The Raiders need wideout help after Rod Streater injured his hip flexor on Sunday. Brown likely put himself on the Raiders' radar with an eight-catch, 117-yard performance in the Chargers' trip to O.co Coliseum in 2013.

If Brown can show he's healthy -- he looked a step slow in his return from a broken ankle last year -- he could end up being a find for the Raiders. He could also be just another guy in the Raiders' underwhelming receiver corps.

Said Around The NFL editor-in-chief, Gregg Rosenthal: "Wait, the Raiders signed a tall, fast, disappointing guy? This is crazy."

Did the sarcasm come through there? I sure hope it did.

UPDATE: The Raiders officially announced the signing on Tuesday.
