Meyer expects LeBron James to attend Ohio State-Virginia Tech

It's been a busy offseason for LeBron James.

The basketball superstar left South Beach to return to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers, took in the sights and sounds of Brazil during the World Cup, went to China for a week and even found the time to hang out with his new pal Johnny Manziel.

James might not be done making appearances at sporting events, though. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said after practice on Wednesday that he expects James to attend Saturday's OSU-Virginia Tech game in Columbus.

"I think he'll be in town," Meyer told reporters. "I think he is coming."

The Buckeyes will host the Hokies in a prime-time matchup for the team's home opener at The Horseshoe.

Taking in a football game is nothing new for James, who has popped up on the sidelines of several big games in years past before the start of the NBA season. Still, he clearly values his association with the Buckeyes the most.

Meyer said in July that James has an open door at Ohio State.

No kidding.

The Akron native knows his way around the gridiron quite well. In high school, James was an all-state wide receiver at St. Vincent-St.Mary High and earned a number of scholarship offers to play both sports in college. He made the rather wise decision to stick with hoops and the rest, as they say, is history.

While Meyer has a young, talented group of offensive skill-position players, none would likely be as appealing a target for new quarterback J.T. Barrett as the 6-foot-8 James.

Given the state of the Cleveland Browns' receiving corps, though, the basketball star might be put to better use by helping his local NFL team out.
