Junior Galette, Saints agree to four-year extension

Junior Galette and the New Orleans Saints have done some business.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Galette and the Saints have reached a deal on a four-year extension worth $41.5 million with $23 million guaranteed, per a source involved in the situation. Rapoport adds that a clause in Galette's contract can push the deal's total value to $48 million if he records 12 sacks this season.

Galette, 26, is now under contract in New Orleans for the next six seasons.

Galette turned into a big playmaker in Rob Ryan's defense last season, setting career highs with 12 sacks and 40 tackles while adding a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus ranked Galette as the 12th-best 3-4 outside linebacker in the league last year.

This is another smart move by a Saints organization that's in a groove right now. Galette is an ascending talent and student of the game who should have several prime seasons ahead. Galette and Cameron Jordan form a dynamic pass-rushing team that has quickly and dramatically shifted a team weakness into a strength.
