Bucs re-sign Major Wright; Charles Sims to IR-recall

Days after cutting safety Major Wright, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing the veteran back aboard the ship.

The team announced Wednesday they have re-signed the 26-year-old Wright.

The Bucs also placed rookie running back Charles Sims on injured reserve with a designation to return in order to clear a roster spot for Wright.

There was some question about whether Sims, who underwent ankle surgery in August, would be shut down for the duration of the season. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport previously reported the Bucs were considering IR-recall in hopes they might get a fresh set of legs for a stretch run in a tough NFC South.

Wright was waived over the weekend as the Bucs got down to a 53-man roster after he missed the final two preseason games with back issues.

The safety started 31 games the past two seasons in Chicago and spent three years as a Bear with coach Lovie Smith. Wright will add depth behind starters Dashon Goldson and Mark Barron in a key position for Smith's defense.
