Mississippi State wide receiver Jameon Lewis might be practicing Tuesday, but coach Dan Mullen isn't making assumptions about the senior's availability for the Bulldogs' game against Alabama-Birmingham Saturday.

Lewis is in mourning following the shooting death of his brother, Tyriunce, on Sunday night.

"I don't worry about as much the missed time or on the football side of things," Mullen said, according to clarionledger.com. "We just want to see how he is emotionally."

Lewis thanked his family's supporters via Twitter Tuesday.

Added Mullen: "We'll see how he does with everything. Let's see how he practices today. Fortunately he's a fifth-year senior, so he knows the offense. He knows that stuff. He'll pick up the game plan really fast."

Lewis is among the top returning receivers in the SEC, having caught 64 passes for 923 yards last season, while being something of a trick-play specialist for the Bulldogs, as well. Lewis also had 13 rushes for 117 yards and threw three passes, all for touchdowns. Lewis caught three passes for 25 yards in MSU's blowout win over Southern Miss in Week 1.

Lewis gave some consideration to leaving college early for the NFL in January, but ultimately chose to return to MSU for his senior season.
