Stephen Hill has escaped the unemployment line. The next goal is getting back on a 53-man roster.
Hill was released by the Jets on Saturday after a disappointing two-year stint at the Meadowlands. Hill went unclaimed on waivers, a somewhat surprising development for a 23-year-old former second-round pick with size (6-foot-4) and speed (4.36 40-yard dash time in the combine). Hill is just one year older than Kelvin Benjamin, the Panthers' first-round pick.
Hill's agent blamed the Jets' scheme and personnel for the wideout's lack of production -- just 45 receptions for 594 yards and four touchdowns over 23 games. Hill could help a Panthers receiving group dangerously low on speed and experience.
This is a flier worth taking.
