Grossman had survived the Browns' cutdown on Saturday and appeared to be a good fit for a Cleveland roster with two unproven commodities at quarterback in Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. Grossman was familiar with Kyle Shanahan's system, having played under the offensive coordinator during their time together in Washington and Houston.
"Rex is a veteran," Browns coach Mike Pettine said Saturday, according to ESPN.com. "He's played in this system. He's good for the (other) guys in the room, and he also showed that he can still throw it. And that's the most important thing. He can still play."
It remains to be seen if Cleveland will add another quarterback or enter the season with just Hoyer and Manziel on the active roster.
