Former NFL GM puts Clemson QB Cole Stoudt on watch

New Clemson quarterback Cole Stoudt doesn't have much of a resume as a pro prospect, given that he had been stuck behind former Tigers star Tajh Boyd until this year. But the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Cliff Stoudt has picked up one endorsement where his potential as an NFL passer is concerned, from former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage.

Savage, now the executive director of the Reese's Senior Bowl, will no doubt keep an eye on Stoudt this year as a possible candidate for next year's Senior Bowl, the late-January all-star game that provides NFL scouts an up-close look at many of the NFL draft's top seniors.

Stoudt has NFL size (6-4, 225 pounds) and has been most impressive in sparse playing time over the last three years. He's completed 86 of 119 passes (72 percent) with eight touchdowns and one interception. But he's not played in a lot of pressure situations againsts top competition, either.

Stoudt makes his season debut against 12th-ranked Georgia Saturday.
