The team waived the former U.S. Olympic track star on Saturday.
Pure speed makes the 24-year-old Demps an intriguing waiver-wire offering, but the 5-foot-7 jitterbug is too small for a big backfield role. Tampa is primed to enter September with Doug Martin leading the way ahead of Bobby Rainey, Mike James and pending IR-recall candidate Charles Sims, who recently underwent ankle surgery.
The Bucs also released quarterback Mike Kafka. The former Eagles passer is a good bet to join Tampa's practice squad, but don't expect the same fate for Demps, whose status as the NFL's fastest man didn't translate into on-field production.
