Wide receiver Csont'e York was dismissed from the Michigan football team on Monday.
York, who faces three misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a July 18 incident outside an Ann Arbor bar, had been suspended from the team since the start of fall camp.
"Csont'e York has been dismissed from the Michigan football program," said Michigan coach Brady Hoke in a statement. "Representing the University of Michigan is a privilege and, while second chances are certainly deserved, sometimes it's better for everyone if that happens somewhere else. Overall, I have been proud of how responsible our team has been this offseason and how hard they've worked to prepare for the season."
Surveillance video of the incident released by Ann Arbor police shows York hitting a man in the face. Mlive.com, which obtained a copy of the police report from the matter, reported that the victim of the punch had a tooth knocked out and his jaw broken in three places.
Per the report obtained by MLive.com , York admitted he threw the punch after being taunted.
The sophomore is facing charges of aggravated assault (one count) and assault or assault and battery (two counts). His arraignment/pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8, according to The Detroit Free Press.
