Chicago Bears place Zach Miller on IR after Lisfranc injury

The news was not good for Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller's return to football after he injured his foot in Thursday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The team placed Miller on the injured reserve list.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the tight end suffered a Lisfranc injury -- torn ligaments. He will undergo another test to see if there is further damage.

Miller has an extensive injury history, which caused him to miss all of the previous two seasons. The 29-year-old played just four games in 2011.

The tight end played well in the Bears' first preseason game, catching six passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns while subbing for suspended tight end Martellus Bennett with the first-team offense.

The Bears would like to keep him in Chicago, per Rapoport, but he'll miss his third straight season.
