Miami Dolphins take Knowshon Moreno off PUP list

After spending almost seven weeks on the shelf, Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno can join training camp practices.

The team announced the back will has been taken off the physically unable to perform list on Wednesday after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in late June.

To be taken off PUP means the back passed a physical and can practice. Moreno's original recovery timetable was a month, but the running back didn't want to rush back.

Moreno signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins this offseason.

There is little chance Moreno plays in the Dolphins' preseason opener this Friday against Atlanta, but getting him back on the field is a step in the right direction.

While Moreno has recovered, Lamar Miller has all but run away with the starting gig. As it stands, Moreno will need to prove he can be a worthwhile backup. Aside from a potential big-back role, Moreno's main opportunity for playing time will likely come on passing downs, where he excelled as a receiver and blocker next to Peyton Manning last season.
