Don't expect Greg Hardy and the Carolina Panthers to do business in the next 24 hours.
NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Monday that a long-term deal between Hardy and the Panthersis unlikely before Tuesday's deadline to reach deals with players under the franchise tag, according to a source apprised of the situation.
Hardy is set to make $13.1 million this season after signing the team's franchise tag. He took part in most of the Panthers' offseason program.
In other -- potentially related -- Hardy news, The Charlotte Observer reported Monday that Hardy is scheduled to be in court Tuesday to face charges that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend in his condominium in May.
Hardy's ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder, claims Hardy had been angry about her brief relationship with the rapper Nelly. Hardy's attorney contends that Holder attacked Hardy and a 911 call backs up his story. Hardy is charged with misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor communicating threats.
Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said at the time of Hardy's arrest that the team would "let the legal process take its course" before deciding on any possible discipline.
