Josh Freeman schedules workout with Jon Gruden

Josh Freeman doesn't have a job. He's taking steps in the hopes of changing that.

NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt tweeted Monday that Freeman has workouts planned with former NFL coach Jon Gruden and quarterback guru Terry Shea over the next two weeks.

Freeman was released by the New York Giants last month after just six weeks with the team. It capped a painful eight-month stretch for the former first-round pick, who was released by the Bucs in October then signed and was discarded by the Minnesota Vikings before his fruitless Big Blue cameo.

Gruden has moved from the sidelines to the broadcast booth, but remains an in-demand commodity due to his football acumen. Shea has worked with many high-profile quarterbacks, including Robert Griffin III, who worked with Shea this offseason to improve his footwork fundamentals.

Freeman's own mechanics could certainly use a sharp eye. That said, poor play might not be the only thing keeping Freeman on the unemployment line.
