Following recent chatter from Jets brass, It's clear New York is Geno Smith's team -- Michael Vick is simply there to provide guidance.
Geno seems buoyed by Gang Green's great confidence in him and is ready to prove the trust isn't misplaced.
"Last year I was a rookie. I was learning. I'm still learning, but I was learning the offense," Smith said Saturday, via the New York Post. "I know the offense. Now, it's about perfecting it. There's really no comparison. It's completely night and day."
Perfecting the offense would be a far cry from 2013. Geno showed flashes of what made him a top prospect of out West Virginia, but he made way too many rookie mistakes and turned the ball over a whopping 25 times. He says the offense will instantly be better due to improved chemistry, something he didn't have time to work on as he learned the nuances of the NFL.
"I can see it this year. It's night and day because I can coach guys up on where I need them to be," Smith said. " ... That's what quarterbacking is. It's about being the coach on the field. That's the position we're in right now. We're still building. We're still developing that chemistry, but as of right now, we're levels ahead of where we were at this time last year."
With free-agent pickups Eric Decker and Chris Johnson added to the mix, along with impressive second-round tight end Jace Amaro, the Jets' offense should be much-improved as long as it receives a big upgrade in play from its signal-caller.
