HOLLYWOOD -- Tajh Boyd has had a front-row seat for what appears to be a burgeoning quarterback controversy for the New York Jets this summer.
Jets coach Rex Ryan has preached the organization's competition mantra, while Michael Vick continues to maintain he's not in position to make a run past Geno Smith in training camp.
Boyd, a quarterback taken in the sixth round of this month's draft, delivered an opinion not dissimilar to the detailed explanation offered by offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg on Thursday.
"Geno has been pretty much ... he's been the offense," Boyd told Around The League at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere on Friday. "You know, right now, it's his team. But, I mean, at the end of the day, you want to go out there and do everything that's possible to win.
"If Geno gives us the best chance to win, he's going to start. If Mike gives us the best chance to win, he'll start."
OK. So ... is this Geno Smith's job?
"Yes, sir," Boyd replied.Â
Like Vick on Thursday, Boyd seemed to bake in some talking points with true reality. Smith is the starter unless he isn't. Which he probably is.
