NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday on "NFL Total Access" that the Cowboys -- at this point -- don't plan on bringing in outside veterans to compete for Lee's middle linebacker position.
The team will attempt to fill the void from within with options like DeVonte Holloman, Anthony Hitchens and Justin Durant. Dallas' plan is to give those players snaps, judge their progress, then evaluate where to go next.
Lee, meanwhile, is set to undergo surgery in a few weeks to repair his torn ACL, suffered Tuesday during the first practice of OTAs. Rapoport reported Wednesday that Lee also has a slight tear in his meniscus, according to a source informed of his injury.
The nature of the injury means Lee is almost certainly out of the picture until 2015. The Cowboys' ability to locate a capable replacement will be a major factor in their ability to stay afloat in the present.
