The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have shaved the competition in their tight end corps.
Tom Crabtree announced Saturday on Twitter that he has been released. The Bucs later confirmed the tight end's release.
I've been released. Thank you to Lovie and the rest of the new staff for giving me a shot. That's a great group of guys. Expect big things.â Tom Crabtree (@itsCrab) May 17, 2014
"As far as Tom is concerned, we have some numbers at tight end, and it wasn't really looking good for him," coach Lovie Smith said Saturday, per SportsTalkFlorida.com. "So whenever I see that maybe it's not going to work out for a veteran, I want to give him the opportunity to get on with someone else."
The 28-year-old played in just seven games last season while battling an ankle injury and later a biceps tear, which ended his season. Crabtree had four receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown in his one season with the Bucs.
