Philadelphia Eagles cut wide receiver Arrelious Benn

The Philadelphia Eagles released wide receiver Arrelious Benn on Friday, the team announced.

The 6-foot-2 receiver missed all of last season with a torn ACL suffered in August, the latest in a string of injuries.

The Buccaneers drafted Benn 39th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft, but the wideout compiled just 59 catches for 862 yards in three seasons in Tampa Bay.

Philadelphia traded for the pass-catcher in March of 2013 and gave him a one-year extension.

The $1.1 million contract could have been one reason behind his Friday release. It remains possible the Eagles bring Benn back at a lower salary later this offseason.

Philadelphia's receiving corps has been a hot topic this offseason. The team re-signed receiversRiley CooperandJeremy Maclin. Later, the much-discussed release of Pro Bowl pick DeSean Jackson took place. The Eagles then added a pair of earlyround receivers in Jordan Matthews (second round) and Josh Huff (third round) in last week's draft, pushing Benn further down the depth chart.
