USF strength and conditioning coach Hans Straub has resigned after posting a tweet he made disparaging the San Francisco 49ers after they drafted a Bulls player.
The school announced Straub's resignation Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday, 247sports.com reported that after the 49ers selected USF defensive end Aaron Lynch in the fifth round Saturday, Straub tweeted, "Thought an organization with 5 Super Bowl titles would have a stricter draft criteria. Clearly, integrity & character are not a priority."
The tweet has been removed from Straub's account (@CoachStraubUSF).
Lynch played one season at USF, in 2013, after transferring from Notre Dame, where he starred as a true freshman in 2011. He sat out the 2012 season, and despite underwhelming numbers last fall (five sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, 29 total tackles) for a 2-10 team, Lynch turned pro. He had two sacks each against Rutgers and SMU, which ranked tied for 16th and tied for 12th, respectively, in the nation in most sacks allowed. His other sack came against Connecticut, which allowed the sixth-most sacks nationally.
While Lynch is considered a good athlete with solid pass-rush skills, his work ethic, maturity and focus have been questioned since he was one of the nation's top high school prospects out of Cape Coral, Fla., in the 2011 recruiting class.
When interviewed by NFL Network during the draft, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said he had talked with USF coach Willie Taggart -- who was an assistant to Harbaugh at Stanford -- about Lynch and was satisfied with the answers.
"He believes that this is a good young man," Harbaugh told sfgate.com of his conversation with Taggart. "(Lynch) needs direction. He needs good structure around him where he's got guys, men that he would look up to. That he would have a chance to emulate. Feels that he'll thrive in that kind of environment."
It appears Straub -- who worked at Stanford in 2011 and '12, after Harbaugh left for the 49ers -- disagrees with Taggart about Lynch.
